Kerala Flood 2018

Post by shineseb »

We were stuck very badly by southwest monsoon during August and end up in flood. As this forum is basically has a back ground of KSEBL, I would like to share some experience in line with this flooding.

For photos of Flood click on the link.

1. We need to appreciate all wings of KSEBL for ensuring safety and safeguard our people from electrocution. Our plants were working even during flood to utilise the flood water. In fact a portion of flood water was diverted to other streams especially Idukki project. We could divert close to 15 MCM water per day to moovatupuzha-ar and safe guard the interest of periyar.

2. We were struggling to cope up with a safe environment for everyone but the damage was very heavy.

3. Poringalkuthu Dam was over-topped for a day and the havoc it created among the common man was serious. The reason for over-topped condition has undergone many introspection for safeguarding the interest of public.

4. Issues at Kerala Flood was not definitely due to dams but rains.

5. many roads to our dams and power houses were thrashed in the flood.

6. we have lost many assests like transformers/lines/poles/meters etc.

But we could restore the system with in a very short period. Stations like poringalkuthu , LP etc were recovered in record time.

Just go through tthe flood pictures in the below link
