IT vs KSEB

Now this world is moving very fast and nobody want to wait in a queue and pay a bill.. Technology has grown very fast and everything can happen over mouse click or using a mobile. So its time to think about IT and its advantages over orthodox methods.
Not only at the customers end but we need to have all the sophisticated methods to build our strategic decisions and employee management.
Our initiatives like ORUMA, SARAS and HRIS been a great help and even we decided to recoup our IT wing. Will that serve the purpose?? Will we get enough resources?? Hope everything will be fine!!
I wanted to list down couple of Suggestion which we can incorporate in our organization.
1. ERP
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems integrate internal and external management information across an entire organization, embracing finance/accounting, manufacturing, sales and service, customer relationship management, etc. ERP systems automate this activity with an integrated software application. Their purpose is to facilitate the flow of information between all business functions inside the boundaries of the organization and manage the connections to outside stakeholders.
This is very important since we can track our entire human resource using a single portal.
2. CRM
Customer relationship management (CRM) is a widely implemented model for managing a company’s interactions with customers, clients, and sales prospects. It involves using technology to organize, automate, and synchronize business processes—principally sales activities, but also those for marketing, customer service, and technical support.The overall goals are to find, attract, and win new clients; nurture and retain those the company already has; entice former clients back into the fold; and reduce the costs of marketing and client service. Customer relationship management describes a company-wide business strategy including customer-interface departments as well as other departments. Measuring and valuing customer relationships is critical to implementing this strategy.
This will be a window for understand our consumers..

The above mentioned topics are for employee management and Customer management.
There are many other systems or technologies which we already have in KSEB and are stated below.
Energy Management Systems (EMS)
Distribution Automation (DA) Systems
Planning and Energy Accounting Systems
Metering and Billing Systems- Oruma
Training Systems
Maintenance Management Systems (MMS)
Management Information Systems (MIS)
Power Plant Control Systems
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA)- we do have it in most of the generating stations.

So its time to think about the feasibility of all these in our infrastructure and deliver the best to our people and country.

KSEB can leapfrog into these if the R-APDRP part A project is successfully implemented.

Since KDN Korea has won the case against KSEB , we hope that the project will soon be implemented. A brief description about the project and the modules

1. Data Centre and recovery center. Mostly will be at Trivandrum/Cochin
2. MDAS- Meter Data Acqusition system--Every Distribution Transformer will be metered and all the readings send to the data center thru GPRS
3. Asset management system- All assets mapped and database created
4. MIS/DSS- normal management information systems and Decision support systems
5. GIS mapping- All the assets are mapped to GIS
6. Customer support systems--Integrating the present billing module-oruma
7.Maintenance management systems-- integrating our supply chain management systems

Besides these OMS(outage management systems, load flow packages etc are also envisaged in the project

Additionally SCADA systems and Distributuion Automation packages are also planned in three cities Trivandrum Cochin and kozhikode.

The part-A projects of APDRP has a 100 % grant component and is fully funded by central govt subjected to certain conditions . So As we have repeatedly said Engineers Association should actively push the implementation of the same which if implemented correctly can change the face of the organisation

IT can be utilized at its best by developing new straggles dedicated/customized for the business(here power) and reusing of available code/resources in the market(lets say open source SCM or working model from a similar organization) etc.
Now the importance of DW( data warehouses) has developed in such a level to support the real time decisions and strategic decisions of daily business- Eg: history of customer, finding out defaulters, most interruptions, water management, maintenance schedule, customer campaigns etc.

Since other power utilities are already making use some of these IT functions to handle their daily activities , why can't we implement the same with the help of the. Let say SCM, This has a similar face in all states of INdia. Lets say Gujarat govt has this object model/ working model why cant we get the same model or design from them? If we need help ,definitely we will get help from Central.

All we want is dedicated members from our organization to help us in this. We need people who are having technical knowledge in both subject area viz IT and Power Sector. The building block for these programs are the business experts/ technical experts/ management experts who serve for KSEB.
If we dont have a strong team for support all these activities we will pushed to the corners again.

Hope our new team( constituted soon i hope) will serve all the needs of our new generation as well.

We have got a good HRIS package to support and report our service matters. Hope this can be enhanced in a better way and give away to other service matters like attendance , leave etc. We can sanction the leave in time and all the approvals can be viewed by the employee at any point of time..
