ABOUT THE HAND BOOK

Though a full-fledged dynamic regulatory environment with appropriate sub ordinate rules, regulations and mandatory standards are in place to help the engineers with appropriate direction and guidance to tackle various issues that come across; many engineers are not aware of the relevant subordinate rules, regulations or mandatory documents which is envisaged to empower them to create a safe, reliable and efficient environment for the transmission and the supply of electricity in the country.

It is noticed that the lack awareness and correct concepts on these subordinate rules, regulations and standards are adversely affecting timely execution of the projects, the quality of the works and the efficiency of operations in the distribution sector. In addition to its relevance in creating a safe environment, the quality of the work will decide the quality and reliability of the electricity as a commodity and hence is of far greater importance in the development of a competitive power market in the country.

This hand book is an effort to bring together all the relevant statutes and mandatory standards related the distribution works to help the practising electrical engineers in the distribution sector in their pursuit of supplying uninterrupted electricity with quality and reliability. The statutes are supplemented with converging comments or notes based on my experiences and vision to help the user to understand and practise the statutes in tune with the spirit envisaged in the statutes. I am sure this Hand Book will be of great help to the practising engineers in the time of their professional needs.
