FGMO mode operation

Post by sunilk »

Whether the generators of KSEB are in FGMO( Free Governor mode operation) as stipulated by CERC. If so what are the settings being done in Governor/or other equipment for the same ..Can anyone enlighten?

Thanks Sunil for a great topic... Was reading that document put by CERC.

Free Governor Mode of Operation, (For short ‘FGMO’) is a defense mechanism against grid disturbances and is a standard practice worldwide. Though the manual
control through resetting of speed set point is also important but in actual practice a very fast response is impossible to achieve the desired result through human intervention. SRLDC during its presentation has clearly brought out that FGMO has smoothened the frequency curve and sharp frequency fluctuations are mitigated to a large extent under FGMO. As critical mass is vital to the successful implementation of FGMO, it is required that all major generating units should be on FGMO. Partial response and blocked governors in some of the units increase undue strain on the units, which are put on FGMO, because only the latter absorb the load fluctuations. If more number of generating units are on FGMO, then the load variations are shared by all the units proportionally and the units are not stressed. It has also been shown that under FGMO, time required for restoring the grid operating conditions gets substantially reduced. These are the few advantages of putting the generating machines on FGMO.

NPS machines are running on the above mode. We could see the variation in the load once demand varies. I think it has advantage and disadvantage. And this order has come in the early 2000. Even they says in case of any technical difficulties we may reach CEA for help/ remedies.
I think we can expect more discussion in this space

er.sunil sir, i didnt know FGMO will have so much of importance these days. now serc rolled out stringent rules to all the generating stations to be on 3 to 6 percent droop. to all other viewers of the forum- please share ur views?
