‘conserVE’ , an inter collegiate project design competition organized by KSEBEA Alappuzha unit and Sree Buddha Engineering College , Pattoor for the engineering students concluded on 6.4.2013. The competition aims to encourage the budding engineers to apply their imagination, enthusiasm, critical thinking and creativity to technology innovations that can contribute to the nation building.
The final round of competition which held on 6.4.2013 included presentation of the 22 selected project designs in the area of energy conservation and energy efficiency. Sri. C.V Subramanian, General Manager, NTPC-Kayamkulam, Chief guest of the day, inaugurated the programme at Sree Budha College of Engineering , Pattor. In his key note address he pointed that India is the fifth largest producer electricity but still have millions of rural population deprived of electricity. He urged students to innovate new methods for increase energy efficiency. Er. George V James, Executive Engineer, Load dispatch Centre delivered the plenary talk on ‘Energy crisis and load Management in Kerala’. In his talk he described different regional grids operational in India and explained the proposed international power highways and ring main systems. Er. James M. David, Dy. Chief Engineer, Transmission Circle, Alappuzha delivered a plenary talk on ‘Power crisis issues and solutions’ during the afternoon sessions. He explained the power crisis faced by us and suggested various possible solutions. He also explained the technical reasons and situations we are forced to implement load shedding.
Dr. E.K. Bhass, PG Dean, Sree Buddha College of Engineering officially welcomed the gathering. Dr. Somy Sebastian, Principal Sree Buddha College of Engineering presided over the function. Er. Krishnakumar M, Station Engineer 110 kV Substation, Mavelikara explained the philosophy and theme of the competition and Er. George Mathew, Project Manager, 220 kV Substation constructions, Punnappra proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. K.K.Sivadasan, Hon. Treasurer, Sree Buddha Educational Society, Er. James M. David, Dy. Chief Engineer, Transmission Circle , Alappuzha and Ms. Aiswarya Mohan, Student representative ,Sree Buddha College of Engineering felicitated the event.
The Cash prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners .and participants in the valedictory function held at 4.00 pm on the same day. Dr.Kanaka Sabhapathi, Associate Professor and Vice Chairman, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Amrita school of Engineering distributed the prizes. The project entitled ‘PRODUCTION OF BIODIESEL FROM AYURVEDIC WASTE OIL BY SOLAR HEATING TECHNIQUE’ investigated by Lakshmi. T. R., Ponni M. Mohan & Athira Raj of the host College won the first prize. ‘COOL ROOFS’ presented by Arunima S., Steffi Stephen, Niranjana S and ‘CONVERSION OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE TO 6..6 MW OF ELECTRICITY’ by Prebin Babu B and Abhijith Gopal bagged second and third places respectively. Er. K.Raghu , Chief Engineer(Rtd.) KSEB, inaugurated the valedictory function. Prof. Nandan G , welcomed the gathering . Dr. Binu Sankar, AE, Electrical Section, Cheppad proposed the vote of thanks.
